Marketing Plan

After researching 3 movies that have close to the exact same audience as my film will have; including Deadpool, Step Brothers, and Zombie-land Double Tap; I've learned that the most common and successful forms of marketing are the use of standout Billboards, Posters, and Social Media Accounts. I will use these three because of the audience that I'm targeting, I'm attempting to attract a fan base that like comedy and action. I'll make trailers that show of the characters in some of the funnier scenes of the film, but not revealing to much of the film that it's spoiled. Billboards and posters will show the entire cast and individual character. The use of various vibrant colors will attract passing pedestrians and the colors will also show the funny goofiness of the film. Social Media will be controlled by the characters of the film and will seem as if it isn't taken seriously. This will add humor to the movie as well.

Audience Engagement - Zombieland Double Tap

Zombieland and Zombieland Double Tap where both directed by Ruben Fleischer and stared Woody Harrelson (Tallahassee), Jesse Einsenburg (Columbus), Emma Stone (Wichita), and Abigail Breslin (Little Rock). This movie had a budget of only $23.6 million dollars and made a box office amount of $102.4 million, making it one of the most successful movies of all time. A major contributor was a very successful marketing campaign which was modeled of of Deadpool.

Posters: The first poster that was released was a presented side-by-side with that of the original poster. Both showed that violence and atmosphere of the film. This hyped viewers who where fans of the original movie because it showed the characters all grown up. Another poster was released that showed them standing on a deserted desert highway ready for action. It was used to thematically connect the new film with the older one. Later on, Individual character posters where created, both returning and new characters, presented in front of a bold neon title which was meant to draw the audience into how much fun they'll have watching.

Trailers: The first trailer was released on YouTube in July, it quickly exploded to 14.4 million views. The trailers show the fun and entertaining atmosphere of the movie and announces the return of all the original cast members that the fans love. The next trailer which was a red-band trailer also showed the basic overview of the story, just with a little more violence and cursing.

Billboards: Billboard usage was used just like the film Deadpool, they where created to show and demonstrate the "fun violence" of the film. Billboards had the same design of the posters for the film but there where also billboards with the full cast. They used extremely vibrant colors to not only grab the attention of the pedestrians but to show the tone of the film.

Audience Media Research - Step Brothers

Step Brother was a movie directed by Adam Mckay and stared Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Their budget for the movie was $65 million.

Poster: There was only one poster made for the movie because the movie isn't a high-tier action film. They target a specific audience by doing this, the poster shows just them in a family style photograph which makes the viewer assume that the conflict of the film is taken place between them.

Trailers: The first trailer was released on March 14, 2008. The trailer sets the tone of the movie by showing the two brothers facing off by staring at each other. Their relationship is further defined as the two physically attack each other which all shows Will Ferrell's character burring Reilly's alive.

Online: As you enter the site, you're taken right into the feud between the two step brothers. This is used to draw you into the character's lives.

Audience Engagement Research - Deadpool

The movie Deadpool was a film directed by Tim Miller and stared Ryan Reynolds as the main characters. Their budget for the movie however was much smaller compared to other big super hero movies, Fox gave then $58 million to be exact. Due to this low budget, Ryan Reynolds worked closely with Fox's marketing team to take advantage of social media and the internet.

Trailers: In July of 2015, The cast members of Deadpool attended the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con where the released the first trailer for the film which received a standing ovation. The trailer was praised for demonstrating the Humor, Tone, and Violence of the film. Two new teasers where released on August 3rd featuring one that showed Deadpool promising another trailer and another that showed the vulgar nature of Deadpool. On December 14, a "12 Days of Deadpool" was released where everyday which teased the comic and superhero fan base with pictures, posters, and more teasers for the film. The trailers where very successful in their marketing.

Billboards & Posters: Billboards where put up across the country and posters where sold. Some where described as idiotic but hillariously brilliant; because you saw some that had Deadpool as very romantic due to it's close release date to Valentines, to him seen with emojis with hidden messages, to him in "sexy" positions. These where meant to draw the attention of passing automotive and walking civilians and make them laugh hysterically.

Social Media: Deadpool was also one of the first movies to actually successfully advertise through social media. Ryan Reynolds created accounts on Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter acting as Deadpool. There where around 10,000 to 20,000 tweets a day and jumped to 90,000 after the first screenings.
