My Midterm Submission needed a lot of work to be a high quality film. My biggest concern was the fact that the original was 3:45 long. This exceeded the limit by 1 minute and 15 seconds. I went through and discarded unneeded scenes and clips that, without them being there, you would never tell because the story still makes sense. By the end I dropped my time to 2 minutes and 50 seconds, still 20 seconds over but it's workable. Another major revision I made to the film was the overall flow, there where pieces missing and some scenes where too long, I took the time to add smooth and needed transitions as well. The audio has also improved and the use of background music is music more present.

Distribution Plan

The method of distribution i plan on implementing into my movie is the use of online streaming services and merchandise. I plan on using the app speck so that my movie can slowly start gaining popularity; at the same time I'll pass out shirts, hoodies, and socks that represent the movie and the characters within. This will hopefully drive attention to the film and the hoodies and shirts will even include a link to the movie on the back. This way the people who acquire these merchendises can easily look up the video but also pasing people who may be intrested. If the movie grows in popularity signifigantly on the speck site, I'll branch out to larger services including Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu.

Distribution Research - Merchandise

A way many movies distribute their Movies via the use of merchandise, this can be posters, blankets, phone accesories, clothes, etc. Many comedy movies make posters for their films that often has a very funny part of the movie on it. However the merchandise changes depending on what's your targeting audience; for example, Deadpool was targeting and teenager - younger adult audience with their sense of humor. Prior to the release of the movie, Deadpool released posters and phone cases which attracted a younger audience, the case showed the violence and humor of the film. Movies also produce clothes such as shirts, hoodies, socks, and even shoes.

This could be very interesting with the distribution of my film. I could easily make clothes that have a logo and the title of the movie, Id have to make them interesting and eye attracting so people will be inmterested.

Distribution Research - Streaming Services

In modern day, streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, YouTube Premier, HBO, and Speck have taken over, it's easy to see that SVOD services will be taking over the digital world. People are even starting to choose these methods of digital streaming over the traditional networks. Netflix, being the most popular, grew to 130 million subscribers in 190 countries. Hulu reached 17 million, Amazon reached over 100 million, and HBO Now hot 5 million in the U.S alone. First, companies partner with a distributor who has a solid relationship with the streaming service your looking to distribute on. Many smaller companies use this method because it is completely free to submit movies onto the services, they rely on the producer to bring them the quality content instead of looking for it. Speck is a streaming app on the phone or iPad where with a small donation of $50, producers are able to publish as much content as they want via their account. Millions of people are able to view your film and, if successful, they will begin distributing your movie to larger platforms for free. Amazon on the other hand, unlike any other service, pays you for every view you receive on the movie. Amazon also allows you to submit your product on your own via the Amazon Video Direct however, you'll need to meet all the requirements including close captions. If any service is into your product, licensing fees for up to 2 years will be required and video files and artwork must be handed over.

There are multiple different ways that I can distribute my movie via this method, the bet however seems to be Speck since I can publish my movie for free and hopefully be successful so  that my product will be distributed to larger platforms for free.

Traditional Distribution

The traditional Distribution Model expresses the relationship between the manufacturer, wholesaler, retailer, and the end user. Movies need the help of a sales agent and a good one will represent your movie at film festivals, introduce you and your film to distributors, and try to sell your films to networks, hotel chains, and airlines.

Distribution Research - Movie Theater

Often feature films such as Zombieland, Deadpool, and Office Christmas Party; distribute their movies via the use of movie theaters. In order for this to work however, there's a lot of procedures that go into Cinema Distribution. After the movie has been filmed, the Studio licenses it to a distribution company. The distribution company then determines how many prints they should produce and sits down with big name Cinemas such as Regal and AMC to discuss screening. The prints are then sent to the theater just days before the opening and the theater only broadcasts the movie for a couple of weeks (Engagement). Movies that take this route make around 98% of their profit within the first 2 weeks.

I may incorporate this incorporate this method by licensing my movie to a small local distribution company and from there they can distribute the movie to the viewers.
